Ever since I saw Machel Montano’s video after last year’s Notting Hill carnival, I was ready to attend a powder festival just to Fog up a place, then Holi festival appeared! My friends seemed to have a blast last year so I was early in booking a ticket.
Don’t tell me that doesn’t look fun. The festival took place in Wembley. Everyone was dressed ready to have his or her clothes ruined. The place looked so disorganized though that you’d think the festival was taking place outside of the queue area.
I did not have any expectations of the festival but once inside, I was pretty let down by the lack of atmosphere and the music. It felt like the crowd was throwing around powder just for the sake of it. There was just something so amateur about the festival. The good thing about it though was DJ Leftie. I had never heard of him but he brought the mood up with some music that you could actually dance to.
Maybe it’s my age speaking and if you would have caught me at university, I would have loved it but no, it’s not as fun as it looks. Every hour, powder would get thrown up in the air. Breathing in that powder wasn’t the greatest, no wonder people wore face masks. My lenses were yellow when I took them off, I was surprised I could still see.
They advertised this festival like crazy, a little too much actually. It didn’t live up to the hype and the £45 they charge for tickets. Notting Hill Carnival is a better alternative, now that’s what I call a party. Everyone reading this and went there, I hope you did a little twerk on my behalf, peace.
