As you may have noticed when checking in online that some Virgin planes have an upper deck. This struck my curiosity and I wondered if it was any different from the lower deck. Below are the differences I spotted.
Firstly, check in early to get a window seat as per usual. Keep in mind that Virgin check-in can be done over a month before your flight so double check when it opens. On the upper deck, sitting by the window matters even more because you get a whole space in between the window and your seat. For a long flight this makes a big difference. It’s very convenient as you won’t have to put everything by your feet or in the overhead locker.
Although sometimes unavoidable, the probability of you having a crying baby sitting next to you upstairs is less (with my luck of course there was one). The overall atmosphere on the upper deck is a lot more calm.
The flight attendants are more attentive and quicker in terms of service. You won’t have to be teased, smelling the beautiful airplane food for 20 minutes before it reaches you. There are only 5 rows, it will get to you quickly. The queue for the toilet is less as well if that matters.
Last but not least – following Upper Class and Premium Economy you will be one of the first to disembark the plane (waiting for your luggage is another story but hey). If I could choose again between upper and lower deck, I would choose upper without a doubt.
