I feel like I’ve abandoned my baby, I’ve neglected my blog for these passed few weeks due to work and exams. With my exams coming around again, I’ve mainly focused my weekly missions on eating. After all, a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do to get by, you know what I mean? My getaway from stress and studying has always been my precious food, it never fails to make me feel better so I thank Trip for cheering me up.
Trip Space Projects announced the arrival of Jones & Sons last month and kindly invited me to attend a dinner for their opening. Jones & Sons is a classic British Restaurant & Cocktail Bar situated within the converted railway arches off Regents Canal in Haggerston. I absolutely loved the location. Although very hidden, it has a really unique setting.

The interior is even more impressive than the location. The restaurant is so cosy and warm, perfect for dark winter times.

The menu incorporates a selection of European dishes priced at either £7 or £11 including a daily deli-counter and sit down restaurant for 60 covers.
I brought my younger sister along with me and we started off with Margaritas! Believe it or not, I don’t think many bars get Margaritas right but Jones got it spot on. I hadn’t caught up with her for a while so it was the best way to kick off some girly time.
But clearly I wasn’t good company
I’m joking, don’t kill me x cheers!
The menu as shown in the previous picture was written on a board. Although this was a cute touch I found it a little hard to read from where I was sitting in the restaurant. Perhaps it would be good to have paper menus as well.
We ordered the salmon tartare and battered courgette, both were delicious. The salmon tasted very fresh and reminded me of Scandinavian food back home.
For the mains we both chose the butchers steak. No, we didn’t choose two different dishes so we could try more of the menu because steaks are not to be shared! For the sides we added green herb salad, mac&cheese and triple cooked fries. Here is where I was a little disappointed though. Although the taste and seasonings were good, the steak and salad were chewy and the mac&cheese was slightly dry.
Nonetheless we still enjoyed it and had room for desserts, sticky toffee pudding and salty caramel tart. The tart was most definitely the winners amongst the two desserts.
We finished off with some Gin&Tonic. I must say I was impressed with their drinks.
Jones & Sons is a lovely little addition for the locals of Haggerston. The restaurant is affordable and is a perfect place to grab a quick after-work bite with its fast service and great drinks. With more attention to the food this place could be a hidden gem.
