50 – Zomato event at Chotto Matte

Did I hear Pisco? o_0 Peruvian? Japanese? Three of my favourite things merged into something called Chotto Matte. Chotto Matte had been on my so called “to food list” for quite some time but I never ended up going. Zomato arranged another meet-up and boom, there I was finally.

The evening started with drinks as usual which was followed by more drinks and Nikkei cuisine tasting.

First of all the interior of Chotto Matte is such a funky, spot-on mix of Japanese and Peruvian. It embraces the South American atmosphere while keeping the original Japanese robata and sushi counter layout.

Even the bathroom has some funky artwork.

What I love about these events apart from the food and drinks is to meet lots of new people. Of course it was nice to bump into familiar faces – Alexandra aka AKBoogie and Ella.

The highlight of my evening was to find out that Pisco Porton can now be found in London. Trust me, not getting a bottle while I was in Peru was something I still talked about. Now my friends can finally see me shut up about it and make the damn Pisco I’ve always talked about. Chotto Matte even provided a little goodie bag with the ingredients, now watch me do this.

Here are the drinks we had:
* Pisco Sour – Pisco, lime, sugar, egg white, Peruvian bitters
* Cuatro Uvas – Pisco, sake, elderflower, red grapes, lime & celery bitters
* Chicana de tonka – Pisco, cucumber, lime, tonka bitters & ginger beer

Last but not least, here is the food. Sadly I don’t have a picture of this but they serve the nicest guacamole dip I’ve ever had. Have it as your starter before your starter if you visit Chotto Matte. We tried some Tostaditas to begin with.

Eggplant Nigiri: aubergine topped with den miso flamed. I loved watching the flames! You could definitely taste it in the flavour, very interesting.

Nikkei Sashimi: yellowtail sashimi, yuzu truffle soy, purple potato crisps, jalapeno, coriander, cherry tomato. You can’t go wrong there.

Sato Maki: seabass, salmon, asparagus. marinated peppers, courgette and shiitake mushroom flamed.

Following the event and a photo competition, I found out that I won a meal at Chotto Matte. Guess who’s wonderful mami is getting a treat? (she doesn’t know yet). I’m so excited to go back there and try the food properly! Stay tuned for the full review. Thank you Zomato and Chotto Matte again!  : )

their Octopus dish is soooo good! At first I thought it was chicken because it wasn’t rubbery.
