In my continued mission to find the best boozy brunch in London, I visited Villandry St James for their Champagne brunch a few weeks back to celebrate my friend about to give birth! People are having babies and getting married around me from left, right and centre and all I have on my mind is travel, travel and more travel. She gave birth last week and this baby is beautiful!! Cheers to baby Leyla. Obviously I was the only one drinking and celebrating for all 3.
Villandry is conveniently located by Picadilly and is a nice getaway from the craziness of Regent Street. When booking a table, make sure you ask for Nr 12! It overlooks St James Square where there is always something happening on a weekend. The interior at Villandry St James is in the style of a European Bistro with high ceilings and cool red seating along the walls and booths.
Along with the champagne that comes with the menu I chose cappuccino to balance things out and it arrived made with love. For my main I went for the Eggs Royale with salmon. The flavours of the salmon and hollandaise were nice but I wish the bread would have been softer. This isn’t noted on the menu but you get a surprise croissant for either before or after your brunch.
Last but not least arrived a dessert platter which consisted of Tropical fruit pavlova, Salted caramel tart, Dark Chocolate cake slice, Blueberry macaroon and Lemon Pannacotta. My favourites here were the lemon pannacotta and the pavlova. The rest were not bad at all but lacked that wow factor I’m always on the lookout for when it comes to desserts.
I really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and of course my amazing company. However there was something about the actual dishes that didn’t quite hit the spot considering that the brunch costs £40 (£30 for Prosecco brunch). I have to give a big thumbs up to the service and the staff at Villandry – it was flawless throughout and nothing makes your experience nicer than knowing that you’re welcomed somewhere. The menu and portions are very generous so you certainly won’t leave with an empty stomach or sober.
