It had been a very long time since I last saw the people at Zomato (January this year to be exact, pre-hacking drama). I was invited along with other bloggers for a #ZomatoMeetup at Counter in Vauxhall.
I was actually on time for this one technically but my GPS took me for a little walk. The restaurant is literally located next to Vauxhall overground station. Counter, a trendy New York inspired spot, looks quite unassuming from the outside next to a wall of clever graffiti. Once you step in you hear a pianist playing at the front of the restaurant and the interior is very trendy, unlike what you’d expect from the outside. The dimmed light makes it so cosy and even more suited for a weekend brunch. We tried the “Build your own bellini” Sunday brunch special for £20. You receive a bottle of Prosecco, Peach Puree and Sliced Peaches to make your own depending on how sweet you like it.
I like mine really sweet…
In my book, brunches are not supposed to be healthy so my radar went straight towards the Banana stuffed French toast, crispy bacon and maple syrup (£8). It was fantastic, I mean look at the size of it!
That’s what I call a badass french toast.
I was also very curious to try the Bacon, mac & cheese balls with chipotle sauce. Unfortunately I found these to be slightly dry and not as beautiful as the French Toast.
Needless to say from the above – I had zero space for dessert. I did stick around to have a chat with the familiar and new faces around me though before heading home. Some ladies on the other hand set the record of a 5 hour brunch! I always love these meet-ups because you never know who you may meet and if all else fails – you all have the love of food in common!
This is a great little brunch spot for South Londoners who don’t want to travel into central for a comforting hangover brunch. There are plenty of booths and a long table to accommodate groups. I’ll certainly pop by again if I’m in the area! Thank you Counter, Alexandra and Sheepa for arranging this yummy brunch.
