Is £10 for an amazing steak too good to be true? Not at Flat Iron, that’s for sure. They are located in three central locations here in London. I’ve visited the original branch by Oxford Street on numerous occasions. The concept and menu is very simple but contains all you need. There is one steak option for £10, some side options and that’s it, nice and easy. The dyon’t take reservations so you most likely have to queue. As with many places, they take your number and you can wonder off until they notify you that your table is ready. With their central locations there’s plenty to do to kill time.
Before you know it, you’re in and very likely to be sharing a table with other people. As you wait for your meal, they serve you pop corn. The main course arrives quite shortly after and is served on a wooden platter with the sides in enamel bowls. The staff recommend the flat iron steak to be served medium rare and that’s what I go for each time with béarnaise sauce. It’s delicious, tender and consistent each time. God knows how many times I’ve been to a supposedly nice steak house and they just can’t get it right, never mind that the price is doubled or tripled. My recommended sides are the Creamed Spinach and Sophie’s Salad.
SUMMARY
For just £20 you can get a good steak, delicious sides, a drink and a dessert, I’m sold! The Covent Garden branch is the biggest one and they offer free ice cream if you show your receipt on your way out! If you haven’t been already then you’re missing out.
