Last week I visited Victory Mansion in Stoke Newington. In all honesty it’s the first time I ever visited the area but its very up and coming. We went there for an evening of cocktail and food tasting.
What I love about this place is that it’s co-owned by 6 friends who completely renovated and built up the place themselves from scratch, using their own recourses and skills to build it up to the cosy place it is! The place is really intimate with a cool, chilled out vibe.
Two of the friends happen to be awarding-winning mixologists: Stuart Binks and Benji Purslow. They’re been very creative in the way they make and present their cocktails, from candy floss to grumpy looking tiki mugs! Every single cocktail that we tried was delicious and also quite dangerous. By dangerous I mean, you couldn’t taste the amount of alcohol that’s in it and that’s what a good cocktail is. My favourite was DR GONZO – Appletons VX, plantation 3 & wray & nephew rums, banana, campari, orange, pineapple and strawberry cordial (£9.00).
For a bar, the food is of high standard and is created by Ottolenghi’s Sam Browne-Wilkinson. The dishes all designed to share and the one I’d recommend the most is the lamb rump with green tomato, apricot, chipotle and sour cream as well as the prawns, burnt pepper paste, sweetcorn and lime.
SUMMARY
Victory mansion is truly a gem in the up and coming Stoke Newington. Victory Mansion definitely left me open to coming back and exploring the area further. It’s worth a visit, both for the nibbles and drinks. Prices are also very reasonable and full menu can be found here.
