A few weeks ago I visited Plum + Split Milk at the beautiful Great Northern Hotel in King’s Cross to try the new Saturday Champagne Brunch menu, designed by Chef Director Mark Sergeant. It had been a while since I had gotten up earlier on a Saturday morning to go for brunch on the other side of town. Who can say no to champagne though and no, 11AM is never too early!
Great Northern Hotel is located literally right outside of King’s Cross station yet its quite hidden. Make sure you look online for the exterior of the hotel, otherwise you may have trouble. The first impression you’ll get is that its very cosy and homely, which is an amazing change considering it’s hectic location.
On the 2nd floor you reach the beautiful Plum + Spilt Milk restaurant. I arrived to see some familiar and some new faces, which is always great. The whole restaurant and table setting is so nicely presented. Their brunch menu includes so many good options that we all spent 10 minutes just choosing our dishes.
I went for the crab and crushed avocado toast in the end, with chillies on the side (£12.50). It was very tasty and deliciously fresh. Most importantly, the bread was nice and soft. I find myself getting disappointed with bread at a lot of brunch places, but not here. The toast doesn’t originally come with chillies but I recommend that you ask for some on the side!
And a Bloody Mary of course!
Everything was flawless throughout. I enjoyed everything from the service, company, food and ambiance. It’s the kind of place that puts you in a good mood for the rest of the day. For around £20 you can have a nice main brunch dish with a side tea or coffee, including service charge. With a time out black card, you can get 50% off the food during weekdays as long as its not between 5-8,30PM.
