Barbecoa is Jamie Oliver’s steak restaurant, based in St Paul’s in the One New Change shopping centre. When you hear Jamie Oliver’s name on any restaurant, your expectations are automatically set pretty high. I was pleasantly surprised by the interior and swankiness of the restaurant given that its in a mall. The restaurant is located on the 2nd floor with some areas of it overlooking the beautiful St Paul’s cathedral, make sure you request for such a table!
Despite so many delicious options on the menu, my family and I unanimously went for the medium rare fillet steak (£35) topped with smoked béarnaise sauce, bone marrow and herb salad. The bone marrow was absolutely mouth watering and was such a nice addition to the steak. The béarnaise sauce is a must on any steak for me, so I ordered another one on the side as well as a truffle butter which I highly recommend. The butter melts so beautifully on the warm meat.
The steak itself was nice, although it was not consistently tender throughout the whole piece. A few of us struggled with the steak knives not being sharp enough to cut through the meat easily. For sides we ordered the mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, broccoli, chips and spinach. Overall we were satisfied with the meal and despite the staff being friendly, we found the service to be on the slow and scattered side.
Having tasted so many delicious steaks this year and Jamie Oliver’s Barbecoa being the most recent one, I have become determined to learn how to make the perfect steak. The below guide has been provided in partnership with Barbecoa.
