Dirty Bones Shoreditch Review

Dirty Bones is a name which I’m sure most Londoners have heard of. You can find them at most major food festivals around town, in Kensington, the beautiful Kingly Court and they’ve now opened a new branch in Shoreditch.

I must admit, I’ve visited the branch in Kingly Court for dinner and haven’t been blown away. Both because of the food and the dark underground-like interior. You’d think that due to its location, Dirty Bones Shoreditch would follow the same funky vibe. To my surprise, it was actually based in a beautiful and bright pub building with lots of natural light – the complete contrast to the Kingly Court branch. At first glance Dirty Bones also won major brownie points thanks to the USB sockets right next to the sofa seats. I’ve not seen a restaurant which accommodates USB cables by the seats before.

The whole brunch menu looks great and has a lot of variety. My eyes were telling me to order the Instafamous Mac Daddy (yes, a burger with Mac&Cheese inside) but my stomach was telling me no way! I decided to go for the Short Rib Crumpets (£8.5) – 14 hour slow-cooked short rib, toasted crumpets with umami butter, eggs, finished with caramelised shallots and mustard seeds. This dish was so tasty!! The flavour combination was insane and the rib was very tender.

My sister had the chicken waffles (£10) – 1⁄2 a crispy fried chicken with a freshly baked waffle and a shot of maple syrup, topped with a fried egg. She really liked this dish because the waffles and the chicken had the perfect amount of crisp and weren’t too greasy.

We were recommended by the manager to try the Beetroot Cured Salmon Toast (£7.5) – in house beetroot-cured smoked salmon, pickled beetroot, homemade goats’ cream cheese served on toasted San Francisco sourdough. This dish was nice but not my cup of tea. I think it’s mainly dark break which I’m not a fan of but it’s a great option if you want to keep your brunch light and hearty.

What’s a brunch without booze!? We went for the Boozy Brunch Flight option (£19 per person). You can mix & match between 4 drinks: Lexy Cocktail, Dirty Mary Cocktail, Spiked Iced Coffee or glasses of prosecco. My two favourites were the very spicy Dirty Mary to have with the food and the Spiked Iced Coffee for after brunch digestion.

SUMMARY
I was pleasantly surprised with Dirty Bones Shoreditch and would definitely recommend it for a nice brunch in East. You have to try the Short Rib Crumpets which are exclusive only to the Shoreditch branch. If you’re in a drinking mood then the sharing cocktails are of great value as you can mix and match 4 based on your own preference. You can have a very good boozy brunch for around £35.

The crumpets look so yummy! I’d never have thought to put beef on crumpets before but it actually sounds delicious. £35 for a boozy brunch in London sounds like a pretty sweet deal too! Definitely adding this to my wish-list of places to try
