Review: Sofitel Hotel Dubai

Sofitel Jumeirah Beach Hotel Review

Last year my friend and I visited Dubai during ramadan as a stop over on our way to Asia. Dubai during ramadan is insanely quiet but on the positive side, prices on hotels are majorly reduced. We managed to book Sofitel on Jumeira Beach for an amazing £60 per night! That’s a very good deal for Sofitel which usually starts from £200 per night. The location of Sofitel Jumeira Beach is ideal as its within walking distance to the marina and a short taxi ride away from the malls.

From my previous experience with Sofitel, I knew I was in for a treat. From the moment you walk in, the hotel lobby gives a great first impression and so do the staff. There’s a beautiful flowery smell in the lobby and very warm interiors. We arrived at the hotel early in the morning and our room was already ready for check in.

THE ROOM
We stayed in a superior room containing a balcony with a beach view that I highly recommend. The interior was very much in line with Sofitel’s general style – full of dark wood with a touch of French and Arabic decor.

The beds were like heaven! I love it when hotels have memory foam mattresses combined with thick feather mattress toppers. The curtains are so thick that they let in absolutely no light which allows you to sleep like a baby. The room had everything that you’d expect, from a coffee machine to flat screen TV and complimentary WIFI which worked well.

The only downside with the room is that its not that spacious and lacks a bit of privacy. If you’re staying with someone you’re comfortable with then its not a problem, otherwise the wooden doors between the bathroom and the room leaves little privacy.

My favourite part of the hotel was the pool. The pool temperature was great and the view over the beach is beautiful from the lounge area. Sofitel doesn’t offer it’s own private beach like some hotels, but they do offer free beach bags which include towels, portable beds and water to use at the beach.

THE FOOD
Sofitel Hotel Jumeira Beach’s breakfast offers a very large selection. The breakfast offers a lot of international options and some middle eastern ones as well. My absolute favorite part was the fresh juice stand. Despite the many food options, the breakfast itself was quite ordinary. We visited the all day breakfast at The Hub restaurant as well and same applied there. Although the breakfast plate offered variety it was quite dry and didn’t have much flavour. Considering that you’re in Dubai, I believe there are better breakfast and generally food options around so I personally wouldn’t eat at the hotel.

The hotel offers a great location, comfortable rooms and beautiful views. I would recommend staying here at a reasonable price but would save that extra money on food and instead head out to Dubai to explore real Middle Eastern cuisine.
