Obica had me at mozzarella! Obica is a cosy and intimate, two level restaurant, located on Charlotte Street. They have 5 branches in total across London. Most recently, one of Italy’s most-loved chefs, Alessandro Borghese, joined Obicà as Creative Chef to develop a new menu which I went to check out.
The menu offers a good variety of delicious Italian dishes. We ordered a bit of everything to try. Pizza, pasta, ham and last but not least mozzarella. The food arrived very quickly and was all served to share. From the mozzarella, we tried the regular burrata (£8), stracciatella burrata (£7) and the black truffle burrata (£10.5). All which were great but the truffle one really stood out to me. The smell, texture and flavors were so on point. I also really liked the stracciatella which came in a milky, creamy bowl full of cheese.
For the ham we tried a bit of Prosciutto Crudo Di Parma (£5) which also tasted great. You could really tell it was good quality meat.
Our pizza of choice was the Prosciutto Cotto E Carciofini (£14) which had roasted ham, grilled artichokes, casatica di bufala, buffalo mozzarella, olives and oregano. I really liked the pizza and found that the artichokes as well as the oregano went really well with the cheese and ham.
For the pasta we had the Schiaffoni ‘Pasta Gentile’ with organic tomato sauce and buffalo mozzarella (£11.50). This was the only one which I didn’t quite like. Mainly because of the tough texture of the pasta but also, it didn’t stand out in comparison to the other dishes.
For desserts I really recommend the tiramisu, you can choose a mini dessert for £2.5 or £5 for a full size.
OBICA MOZZARELLA BAR CHARLOTTE STREET REVIEW SUMMARY
I think overall the food was great and I’ll 100% be back for the burrata alone. Mozarella, as their name suggests, is what they do best and whilst the other dishes are not bad at all, they don’t compete. Apart from their beautiful burrata, another thing which really stood out to me was the service. The staff was wonderful and so accommodating. Service really does go a long way.
