METTERRA HOTEL EDMONTON REVIEW

When I visited Edmonton in September for Canada’s 150, I stayed at the Metterra Hotel. Metterra is located on Whyte Avenue, Old Strathcona, within close proximity to lots of shopping, nightlife and great places to eat. It’s also the perfect location to stay in if you’re visiting during the Edmonton Fringe Festival like I was.

My room was a suite on the 6th floor. Having traveled around as much as I’ve been doing lately, staying mainly in hostels, it was nice to settle in a place which felt more like an apartment than a hotel room. I really felt at home here for 5 days.

Everything about the suite was comfortable and very spacious. Especially the soft and large bed with lots of pillows. The blinds were perfect but also a bit dangerous (in a good way) when you’re trying to overcome a jetlag. Whyte Avenue can get pretty noisy in the weekends though but luckily they provide good earplugs. During my stay, as always, I was having problems with my phone. Therefore it would have been useful to have a clock in the room somewhere or an alarm, neither of which I could find. The living room had soft sofas, a fireplace and a lovely bar counter.

The bathroom included both a standing shower as well as a tub with bubble bath options. The toiletries deliciously smelling Molton Brown products. I really enjoyed the sea salt for the bubble bath.

The breakfast is served from 7am and finishes at 9,30am, which I found quite early. Having said that, the hotel does have quite a corporate feel, so I guess their guests tend to start their days early. I enjoyed the espresso machine which could be used the whole day. The continental breakfast selection was quite small but included all the essentials like egg, bacon and sausages from the hot selection, as well as cereal and bread with various toppings. There’s also daily wine and cheese tasting from 5pm-7pm in the same dining area which is a lovely bonus!
