Chang Sensory Trails London 2018

Thai has always been one of my favourite cuisines in the world. It was only when I spent a month and a half in Thailand last year that I got to explore my love for the food much deeper. If you also love Thai food then you’re in for a treat this weekend.

On Saturday (12th May 2018) Chang Beer is hosting an event in London focused on Thai food, art and music. It will be held at Last Days of Shoreditch and is a whole day celebration from 12 – 10pm. Chang has partnered with 8 Thai restaurants in London where each head chef will create their own signature dish. The restaurants include: Tawana, Bang Bang Soho, Patara, 101 Thai Kitchen, LAO Cafe, Rosa’s Thai Cafe, Thai Tho and Nipa Thai.

Ahead of Chang Sensory Trails I was invited to a preview lunch at one of the partner restaurants – Patara in Wimbledon. I tried Vichai Mungmai’s signature Chicken Massaman Curry. Massaman curry is delicious and very different from other Thai dishes. The curry usually contains chicken or beef. You can expect spices like cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, star anise, cumin, bay leaves, nutmeg and mace. The Massaman curry will be available to try at the festival, amongst other signature dishes from London’s top Thai restaurants.

In addition to Massaman Curry I tried their calamari which went very nicely with an ice cold Chang beer.

Writing this post has made me want to visit Thailand again, but in the meantime make sure you follow along on Catch52’s Instagram stories on Saturday where we will be trying all 8 signature dishes! Chang Sensory Trails will also go on tour across the UK with events in Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh.
