FOOD GUIDE: WHERE TO EAT IN DEAL, UK

Anyone who knowns me, knows that I travel for food. Before any tourist attractions the first thing I do is look up places to eat. This summer I promised myself to make the conscious effort to discover more of the UK. Recently I visited Deal with Southeastern Railways who are currently offering Summer Off-Peak Day Return tickets to Deal for £25.

Unfortunately the weather on the day that we went wasn’t great (even more reasons to eat, right?). However we decided to wake up early anyway and make a day trip. The journey only took us 1 hour 20 minutes from King’s Cross. Thanks to the weather we got to explore this cute little town without the crazy summer crowds. We all know how Brighton is on a hot sunny day.

Deal reminded me very much of Brighton but with a lot more French influence. The coast of France is only 25 miles away and you can spot it on clear days. We spent most of our time in Deal by the pier and on the high street. These were our favourite places:

Pop Up Cafe
The first stop on our trip was Pop Up Cafe for a light breakfast to get our day started. Pop Up Cafe is a very healthy spot, offering fresh meals and great coffee. It’s worth noting that they’re only open from Thursday to Sunday.
16 High St, Deal, Kent. CT14 7AE.

Victuals & Co
Hidden on a backstreet we found Victuals & Co for lunch. A friendly and relaxed fine dining spot. The restaurant is split into two levels with artsy interiors and a cosy atmosphere. We had three delicious courses for only £22. I highly recommend the scallops and the steak.
2-3 St George’s Passage, Deal, CT14 6TA

No Name Shop
This cute little shop offers a beautiful selection of French cheeses, charcuterie, freshly baked bread and patisserie. We tried the Basque almond cake which was incredible and took espresso eclairs with us on our beach walk.
110 High Street, Deal CT14 6EE

For those who love a bit of history there are two famous castles nearby built by Henry VIII, Deal Castle and Walmer Castle. Deal castle is right by the pier which makes it the most convenient one to visit. A 30 minute stroll on the beachside will also take you to Walmer Castle.

It was nice to get away from the craziness of London for a day and we enjoyed the chilled vibe in Deal. If I’ve missed any good spots let me know in the comments!

This post is sponsored by Southeastern Railways. They are offering Off-Peak Day Return tickets to over 13 destinations starting from £15. Check them out here.
