These days, travellers including myself are always on the lookout for the most “Insta-worthy” spots in the cities that we visit. Tokyo is one of my favourite cities in the world. It’s colourful, vibrant, unique and interesting! I’ve never taken so many photos in my life and thought I’d share my top Instagram spots in Tokyo.
1 – Shibuya
Nothing screams Tokyo more than this famous crossing. Not only is this manic crossing Insta-worthy but it’s also a Tokyo bucket list experience. Imagine the Piccadilly of London or Time Square of New York, that’s what Shibuya is to Tokyo. Just try crossing a few times just for fun and you’ll see what I mean. If you want a great view of the crossing, find yourself a spot upstairs at the Shibuya Starbucks.
2 – Yoyogi Park
Yoyogi is a beautiful park in Harajuku containing shrines, a tree forest and quirky art. While you’re photographing the famous park, you may even come across some festivals. Go in the morning though to avoid the massive crowds as always. Located by Harajuku station, you can tick off two places in one go which brings me to my next spot.
3 – Harajuku
Harajuku is the home of everything kawaii (cute). From quirky and colourful shops, clothes, restaurants to people. It’s a really fun neighbourhood to explore. Imagine the Camden equivalent of Tokyo. There’s something exciting to find in almost every shop and the atmosphere is always buzzing.
4 – Chuo Street in Ginza
Chuo-dori is the main shopping street in the Ginza area. Expect to see lots of high rise buildings, bright lights and signs, cool architecture and massive crowds.
5 – Tokyo Skytree
Get a view of the whole city from Tokyo Skytree, the tallest structure in Japan. This signature landmark is located in Sumida. Make sure you time your visit to catch a perfect sunset. Access to the highest observation deck costs 3090 yen.
6 – Omotesando
Omotesando has been classified as the Champs-Élysées of Tokyo. Here you’ll find many designer shops but most importantly, Omotesando is the home to some of Tokyo’s most impressive architecture.
