Amber is a 2 Michelin star restaurant in Hong Kong, ranked No. 24 on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants and No. 3 on The Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants List. Chef Richard Ekkebus is the star behind Amber, my culinary highlight in Hong Kong (hands down!).
Its a new year which also means brand new and exciting restaurant openings! The latest one I’ve tried is Firedog in Fitzrovia / Tottenham Court Road. Firedog is a Greek and Turkish all day dining place that opened last month. I visited specifically to try their breakfast mezze. For those who don’t know, mezze means small appetisers – think of it like breakfast tapas. Being Iranian I am very familiar with this kind of way of serving breakfast. Naturally I was very excited to see such a concept being introduced to London.
Melbourne Food Guide – Top 3 restaurant recommendations
Melbourne is known all over the world for it’s amazing food. When I go on holiday, the majority of my focus is on the food. Of course I enjoy the sights and scenery but if the cuisine isn’t good then its a deal breaker. Melbourne was amazing in every sense when it comes to the food. I stayed for 4 days and didn’t have a single bad meal. The culture in Melbourne is so diverse with so many cool restaurants and bars to choose from. Here are my top recommendations of where to eat in Melbourne.
HKK is part of the Hakkasan group and is located right in the heart of the City, a short walk from Liverpool Street station. I visited to review the £58 5-course HKK tasting Menu. I’m a big fan of all Hakkasan Group restaurants, Yauatcha included, so I knew I was going to like HKK but didn’t realise just how much.
Unlike Yatacha and Hakkasan which both have dimmed cosy lights and dark interiors, HKK is on ground level and very bright while maintaining the Hakkasan Style. It’s got the sleek city vibe.
Theo’s Simple Italian is located at Hotel Indigo in Earl’s Court and is run by the famous chef Theo Randall. I was invited to a preview of his new brunch menu a while back, hosted by the man himself.
Prior to the brunch, we were treated to a masterclass where we got to watch him make pasta from scratch! He gave us his tips on how to work the pasta machine to our advantage. To top it up he also showed us how to make our own ravioli. It all looked nice and easy but I bet if there was a test right afterwards then I’d fail miserably. He’s a lovely and down to earth chef, who’s clearly got so much love and passion for his food.
