This year was a big one for the royal family as they celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday on the 11th of June. We saw Regent Street decorated with England flags, the Queen hosting a picnic with 10,000 people at The Mall and I celebrated in the most traditional English way by having a Royal Tea at the Wellington Lounge, Intercontinental Hotel in Park Lane, with May from Red Velet London.
I’ve visited the Wellington Lounge before with my mom and fell in love with their chocolate afternoon tea. The scent of the lobby is still the same beautiful smell I remembered and one thing I love about the lounge apart from the beautiful interior is the view out to Park Lane and the Royal Gardens. This time we had the pleasure of watching a naked bike race as we had our afternoon tea, I’d love to show you pictures but it may spoil your appetite for the post :D.
As soon as we sat down we were greeted by a familiar face, Thomas, who is a lovely member of staff at the Wellington Lounge. We started with a gorgeous Pimm’s cocktail with a champagne twist. I really liked having some sparkle in my Pimm’s and besides, the mix makes the drink stronger!

Shortly after being served tea, we were presented with the afternoon tea stand. The finger sandwiches contained Salmon, Prawn Cocktail, Egg and Mayo, Ham and Mustard, and Coronation Chicken with Mango. Thomas recommended that we tried them in the order that I mentioned by starting with the fish, then balance your palette with the neutral egg and mayo before going on to meat. They were so good that we gladly went for a 2nd round.

I loved the scones as well, they were freshly made and soft as always but what stood to both May and I was the size. They were mini scones! We’re never able to finish the normal sized ones so this was a lot easier to eat.

Last but not least, look at the pretty desserts! They were a set of limited edition cakes designed to represent the Queen’s crown, hat and bag as well as the Queen’s garden party. The ones I liked the most were the strawberry and white chocolate crown and the coffee, chocolate and walnut bag. The garden party and the hat didn’t live up to the great presentation in my opinion and I wasn’t a big fan of the taste. Along with our desserts, we were served one last drink – a refreshing red berry and green apple iced tea.

Overall I really enjoyed the Royal Tea, with everything from the service to the afternoon tea itself. The afternoon tea price is £32 per person with options of bottomless champagne starting from £65.
I was invited to review.
This afternoon tea looks lovely! I love the cute desserts shaped like hats and bags. How fun.
