THE BEST OF BRIGHTON IN ONE DAY – MICROGAP

A month ago I got to take a very relaxed day trip with Visit England out to Brighton, one of my favourite places in the UK, to experience a Microgap.

When I quit my job and packed up my things to go traveling, it was because I needed a break. Although it’s something I wish I could do over and over again. it’s not always realistic. When thinking of the typical gap year I think mainly about getting away, adventure, exploring and switching off. You don’t actually have to travel far at all to experience those things and this is where the Microgap concept comes from – pack the best bits of a gap year into just a few days right here in England.

Brighton is one of the many places in England you can do just that. It took us 1h 20m to get there from King’s Cross on the Thameslink. It’s a vibrant and colourful bohemian city, also known as little London by the sea. Brighton is truly a city that never sleeps but there is also a very peaceful side to the city.

Our itinerary was to explore the relaxing sides of Brighton in a day and there were plenty of things to do.

RELAXING THINGS TO DO IN BRIGHTON

Walking tour with Brighton City Walks
Our day started with a leisurely 90-minute walking tour around Brighton taking us through iconic parts of the city, such as the Royal Pavilion, Brighton Pier and The Lanes which is a shopper’s paradise filled with lots of little boutiques and independent stores.

Sauna at Beach Box
Located on Brighton beach, Beach Box is an outdoor sauna and bathing experience. The sessions last for 2 hours, split into 3 smaller sessions with breaks in between (of course!). It was such a relaxing and unique experience. Put on a felt hat, enjoy the incredible heat with essential oils and if you’re brave enough, jump into the ocean just a stone throw away. You also get the option to do a rose salt scrub whilst your body is nice and soft. It’s a sauna experience like no other.

Price: £20 | 120 minutes

Yoga overlooking the beach at Yellowave.
The Yellowave Clubhouse offers an open, light and airy space with beautiful floor to ceiling sea views to practice Yoga amongst other classes. Our session was very cleansing and set us off nicely for the rest of the day. The session was taught by Yoga In The Lanes

Price: £12-14 for drop in classes.

Vegetarian food at Terre a Terre
Speaking of a relaxing break, it goes hand in hand with being good to your body too. We visited Terre a Terre, a famous award winning vegetarian restaurant with colourful, creative and delicious food. My absolute favourite was the cauliflower, add that to your list!
