Tucked away in the heart of the meatpacking district in New York hid the best lobster I’ve ever had. The Lobster Place located in the Chelsea Market is essentially a fish market. From the outside you wouldn’t think much of it but don’t be fooled.
As a fish lover I’m always on the look-out for the freshest fish out there and this place has just that with an incredible variety. You will find everything from an oyster bar to whole fish on ice, sushi rolls and most importantly, lobster. Prior to my visit, lobster never really appealed to me as I always found it a bit bland with very little substance.
You can choose from 1.5, 2.5 or 3lb lobsters. The steamed lobster was buttery, juicy and soft served with a lemon slice. It’s something you must try for yourself. The meat inside was generous. It’s great informal dining, nothing fancy – call it fast food lobster. You have the options of a standing table and some seating by the entrance.
Be prepared to get dirty.
The Sashimi on the other hand was not as impressive. The textures of the yellowtail and tuna were quite dry in my opinion.
The place itself is very busy and has an atmosphere, it’s a must for fish lovers. It offers fresh, tasty fish at a reasonable price by big city standards. I will for sure be back next time I’m in New York.
